Shorts Aster is a fast growing and vigorous native shade flower. By the second season it will grow to 3 ft high and be covered in bee-loving blooms. It blooms in fall with light blue flowers. This aster does spread readily by seed and is more suitable for tall shade gardens and wild areas. An attractive inhabitant of dry woodlands. Its stems are round and slender. The central stems end in foot-long clusters of compound flowers, each with 10-20 pale blue-violet ray florets surrounding a yellow disk that ages to reddish purple.
This woodland aster can suffuse a woodland or shady garden in a purple mist of blooms in the autumn.
