Hakonechloa aureola - Japanese Forest Grass - the 2009 Perennial Plant of the Year! Gorgeous ornamental grass. This forms a low mound of arching stems, with cascading layers of narrow leaves striped with bright yellow and green. The graceful effect is like a dwarf bamboo but without any invasive tendencies. Clumps make a spectacular border edging. Combines beautifully with Hostas or ferns. Best grown in humusy, consistently moist, well-drained soils in part shade.
